We camped out on Sunday evening, in our back garden, as part of the Big Little Tent Festival.
Putting up the tent was pretty easy with the 11 year old losing interest fairly quickly and the 9 year old and I putting it up mainly in a stress free manner. When we needed a third person to hold things The Husband was called in.
The children spent no time making their pod int he tent homely and planning what we were going to do.
The 11 year old had specifically requested that she cook tea, using a recipe that she’d used on a trip with guides. With a little help she managed everything and it was delicious.
We introduced the Stepling’s Boyfriend to our favourite family game, Dobble (a great game which I’m giving away here). It was competitive as usual but was lovely to get us all sitting round the table together.
Later we played a game of would you rather which included several disgusting entries from both the 9 year old, The Husband and the Stepling’s Boyfriend. To end our night we cranked up the chimnea and broke out the marshmallows.
The children both went to bed and the Stepling and her Boyfriend went inside to their comfy beds. The Husband and I had half an hour of chatting while the chimnea kept us warm.
I’d like to say we had a great night’s sleep however the village drunks were yelling outside the house at 2am and then the 9 year old woke up, at 4am, with the start of a ferocious ear infection and slept like a starfish with me in my pod.
It’s always great to spend time together as a family and even better when there are no electronic devices to distract and regardless of the lack of sleep we all agree that you can’t beat some old fashioned outdoorsy camping fun!
