However, some research suggests that Internet gambling may increase the rate of disordered gambling. This is because of the high accessibility of the platform. Problem gamblers are also more likely to consume alcohol and to be dependent on illegal drugs.<\/p>\n
As a result, there are a lot of questions regarding the relationship between internet gambling and problem gambling. There is a need to conduct longitudinal research to identify the potential causes and the possible effects of the pathological use of the Internet. The current paper provides an overview of the existing research and highlights recent findings that are relevant to the adult internet gambling addiction.<\/p>\n
Internet gambling is a relatively new phenomenon. Although a variety of studies have been conducted, most are cross-sectional and lack longitudinal data. Moreover, these studies are too small to make any accurate conclusions. Nonetheless, it is important to recognize that there is a substantial and growing body of literature on the subject.<\/p>\n
One of the most significant findings is that a majority of Internet problem gamblers report problems before the Internet. Most of them attribute their problems to land-based forms of gambling. Furthermore, most of them say that online gambling is easier to access than land-based gambling.
