The Time Is Now

I was tagged by Erica for the Favourite Song Meme currently winging it’s way around the blogosphere.

My favourite song is The Time Is Now by Moloko.

This song reminds me of those first months of meeting The Husband. I refer to that time as ‘when we were young and in love’. Now we are older … and in love.

Some men reading this will know it for a completely different reason. It will twang their heart strings. To them it will signal joy, to their other halves perhaps it will signal misery. In August 2004 Sky Sports’ Football decided to take it upon themselves to use part of the song as their theme tune. It was only supposed to be used for two months. Six years later they are still using it.

It tainted my love for the song.

Tonight I decided to forgive and forget. I decided to listen to it again because every time I thought of a song which I really liked this one kept popping up. Tonight I could see past the football connotations and I was taken back 10 years to when we were young and in love.

You’re the first thing
And the last thing on my mind
In your arms I feel
Sunshine

So without further ado, here it is sung by Roisin Murphy, lead singer of Moloko, on Jools Holland live.

So, what is your favourite song and why?

What a great version. This song is huge to me, it was all about a time when I got over years of being trapped by anxiety and panic attacks and slowly regained my life, and upped sticks and moved from the depths of Cornwall to the bright city nights of Brighton.

Wow, listening to it now brings back that feeling of anything being possible, I was only 22. Thank you of reminding me of that girl.

I have tagged you at my blog, sorry if you have already done this one. http://youfoundkelshidingplace.blogspot.com/2010/01/best-things-in-2010-are-free.html

Awwww, bless yer. – and all in the public domain too!

But I would have sworn you’d say Coldplay, Shiver or Yellow, for the same reasons of course.

You know…I don’t really know what my fave song of all time is. That is such a hard one! But I do have fond memories of Van Morrison’s “Someone Like You”. Hubby and I had it as our first dance when we got married, but loved it before that… When I hear it, it reminds me of him and also of French Kiss – because it was featured in the film, and I loved it!

I love that song too! I don’t know how I’d choose my favourite song but I do like Fields of Gold (the Sting version) or Wonderwall (the Ryan Adams version) or indeed Air’s All I Need, that I remember for the same reasons that you remember Moloko.
