Tarzan in Bethlehem?

Written by on November 23, 2010 in BLOG - 8 Comments

Teacher Friend Mother of 3 (TFMo3) came round the other day.

She asked me if I knew what the 4 year old was going to be in the nativity. Our 4 year old’s are in the same class.  I didn’t know.

As usual I’d had ‘don’t know’ answers about daily life at school from my children that day. To get information relating to the impending nativity would be tantamount to receiving the whereabouts of the secret ingredient formula of CocaCola from the secret service.

“Well, apparently, T is going to be a leopard” TFMo3 said “It must be a jungle themed nativity”

I know, I know … jungle themed?

The three wise men arriving on a leopard, Mary and Joseph swinging from vines.  Would Tarzan have a cameo? It wouldn’t be the first time our church school had deviated from a classic tale.  The 6 year old was a disco dancer in last year’s nativity.

Our minds started whirring and I may have laughed, realising that she would have to provide an outfit.  Then I started panicking, would I too have to find a leopard outfit?

Later as I put the 4 year old to bed I said “Do you know what you are going to be in the nativity?”

“Yes, me and T are going to be shepherds” he replied

I left his room, inside I was whooping and I may have punched the air. Shepherd leopard, easy mistake to make *cough* … a tea towel and a headband it is then.

Lovely, made me actually laugh out loud there. My little one is Innkeeper 3 – the one that says yes (or in his case “yet”)

Oh I’m disappointed. Could you not maybe give him an animal print headdress? Just so I could see the photos? Hmmm?

The twins are also leopards, I mean shepherds. We come from a long line of Shepherds. No shop bought outfits for us either. Tea towels and pillow cases all the way in this house x

An alien? That’s a new variation on the tradiiton story J

I’m very much hoping that Bigger is a shepherd – that costume I can do, have worries that she might be a sheep which would be far harder (although probably not in the same league as a leopard)

My 5yo told me yesterday that she’s apparently going to be an alien in their nativity, so I guess a leopard might have been a possibility… although a shepherd does sound imminently more sensible.
