So I slept on it and out popped my pride …

Written by on April 21, 2010 in BLOG, My mum - 45 Comments

Once again Tara @ Sticky Fingers has gone and done it again. This weeks Gallery subject is the 7 deadly sins. The sins are: Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy, Gluttony.

Why she couldn’t just have the subject as ‘dog’, ‘child’ or ‘holiday snap’ I don’t know.

So, I spent FOREVER going through pictures only to find pictures of my children, our wedding and/or our dog which I decided were boring.

So I slept on it and the following morning dug these out and found some pictures I am very proud of.

Three pictures of a mother and child.  My mother.  I am the child.  I only had my Mum for nine years. I have difficulty with memories during those years.

Luckily I have photos, quite a few in fact. I don’t just look at the photos, I pore over them  I wonder what she was thinking, doing, wearing … just any glimpse of anything that makes me feel a bit closer to her.

Now that I am a mother they mean even more to me.

I think the would have been proud of me, as I am of her.

I’m belatedly seeing this post after reading over at Nixdminx. My heart aches for you and your photos are lovely – you can really sense the love in the pictures. Glad you have them x

Lovely photos, so beautiful. I know some isolated tribes who don’t want their photos taken because they fear the camera will ‘take their soul’. I think the camera can take your soul, but it’s a good thing and not something to be feared. It can shine exactly who you are, and these photos do exactly that. They shine out who your Mum was, and the love she had for her daughter!

You would make her proud every day. Not only are you achieving so much as a loving mum you are the sort of person others clamber to have as a friend. I’d walk over hot coals to spend a few days with you. Gorgeous pics. xxx xxxx

She’d be so proud. I agree with MrsW on having photos taken, you never know how much they’ll mean until you’re gone.

Pictures are such amazing things. I live far away from all my family and love looking at ones of us when we were young and how we looked and what we wore. Your mum looks so young and vibrant and clearly adores you. How lovely you have these to treasure. Thanks for sharing this. I am sure it wasn’t easy.

Laura you are the image if your mum. Such lovely pictures and so so precious.

I have so few of me and my mum but I analyse each one, wondering what she and I were thinking/feeling. My memories are fleeting which saddens me greatly.

Nikki’s comment is spot on. So often I only see my size in pictures with my children and I should learn to love the memory the picture creates for them as they will only see their mum.

    ((hugs))

They’re lovely photos and exactly the reason why I am rarely without my camera – every photo is a memory to keep forever.

This is the post that every one of us who has spent years avoiding having our photo taken should read. I’m striving to redress that little phobia – we all should.
