Review – Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief

When Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief arrived I looked at the box and, although a PG, I thought it might be too old for the kids.

The night we went to My Sister’s housewarming, we left Gramps in charge, he and the children watched it.

I say they watched but I think  the 4 year old, suffering fatigue from a days scootering, fell asleep on Gramps whilst he read the paper.

Not very good reviewers, it has to be said.  All the 6 year old had to say was that it was ‘good’.

So, thinking all was lost I decided that the following weekend I would have to watch it alone.  It turns out that as soon as I said I wanted to watch it, so did the kids … because of ‘ the lady with snakes in her hair’, ‘wait till you see the swords Mummy’, ‘the flying shoes’ and the ‘giants at the end’ … all this from the boy who was asleep during the first viewing.

The 6 year old was equally excited said ’wait till you see the boy with goat legs and the man who has a horses bottom’ and ‘Percy has to rescue his mother from HELL’.

I sat between the children and they guided me through the film, in only the way that children do, by telling me exactly what was about to happen at every twist and turn.  They were glued to the screen.

Despite the reference to hell and Uma Thurman as Medusa with snakes as hair the only time that the 6 year old peeked through my fingers was right at the beginning at the slightly scary flying monster with bad teeth.

I really enjoyed the film, I liked the Greek God’s theme and the Converse with wings … nice bit of product placement.  Logan Lerman who plays Percy Jackson was nice to watch too *COUGH* (It’s OK, he’s 18, so I’m allowed to say that).

We’ll definitely be watching Percy again.

Epic, fantasy-adventure Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief  brings Greek mythology to life.  Now out on DVD and Blu-ray. The film follows teenager Percy Jackson, as an ordinary 21st century school day turns into a race against time, filled with warring Greek gods and creatures straight from the pages of his mythology textbooks.
