The Lego Police Station arrived this week. When I announced on Twitter that I would be spending Saturday afternoon building a Lego Police Station my Wife asked if she could assist.
An hour later she was on my doorstep with her 6 year old son, O.
We set up in the conservatory where the children suddenly showed an interest in Lego building. The 5 year old usually shows and interest for 5 minutes and then goes about his business preferring to just play with the finished article. Yesterday though, he was like a vulture.
The 5 year old kept leaning on the instructions and picking up random bags of bricks and waving them about. This sent my heart racing with fear “What if he were to mix a 4 bag up with an 8 bag”. It doesn’t bear thinking about.
We ploughed on, elbowing children out of the way until they finally became bored and went in search of fighting utensils and the Wii. To make sure they wouldn’t return in a hurry I opened the conservatory windows to allow a blast of cool air. A bit too cool for a child wearing only a t-shirt and shorts to sit comfortably alongside me. Muhahahahaha.
The new Lego police station is very similar in design structurally to the one I had as a child which I gave away *kicks self*. The sliding garage doors are exactly as they were in 1984. A joy.
The cells with the secret escape route for the dirty filthy robbers made us gasp with awe. The ‘Dead Man Walking’ sliding cell doors, the tilting flat screen computer, the coffee machine, the handcuffs … be still my beating heart. It’s all in the detail and Lego never disappoints.
The instructions are so simple to follow. When we’d finished and surveyed our work … from several angles … we let the children come and play with it.
The 5 year old has spent hours recreating robbery scenarios. The Police Station comes with two vehicles and a bike which add to the variety of incidents. Just last night we had a smash and grab which was caused by the ‘kimono girl’ of Lego Minifigure Series 4. I enjoyed handcuffing her and reading her rights.
My Wife and I are as one when it comes to Lego building. We love it. It is still to be decided whether we love it more than our children though. I jest of course *cue shifty look*.

You let me play – I will be forever grateful and also covet the Geisha Lego woman with a passion.
Let me know if any more precious bricks drop through the letterbox. I will be round like a shot with my nose pressed to the conservatory window…
Can i borrow the Police Station kit please…
Lego is always great! The bit that bothered me was that you were still young enough to play with Lego in 1984. Feeling old
You let the children play with it? Are you mad. I NEVER let them touch any of my lego creations!
