If there’s one game I think every family needs it’s this one. Dobble!
The game is simple. You have 55 round cards with symbols on them. You place two cards on the table and the first one to spot the two matching symbols wins those cards.
There are more complicated versions that you can play but so far we’ve stuck to this one. The 5 and 7 year old love it.
We’ve played it in Amsterdam, on a train; in a waiting room, on a ferry, in the garden, in a restaurant, in the park. Everywhere.
We took it to my sister’s one night and played until we could play no more. Sitting in her garden, at night drinking wine, and shouting in a competitive, and very loud, manner probably wasn’t what the neighbours were hoping for. There was lots of excited stuttering, shouting, twitching and slamming of hands on tables. There may have also been some unabashed cheating.
Dobble comes in a round tin which fits perfectly in my handbag for those moments when the children are bickering and need an instant distraction and also makes a family party a raucous one!
A game for all ages and one we will play over and over again until the cards are tatty and we need to buy a new one.
