Mummy on toast?

Written by on July 5, 2009 in BLOG - 12 Comments

I was absent this morning, I left a sleeping house and set off for the Cancer Research Race For Life at Temple Newsam in Leeds.  Later at breakfast when the 3 year old was asked what he would like, he replied “Mummy”.

Luckily the activity levels were walk, jog or run. Having not run anywhere since I was 12 I decided to walk and joined Facebook Wife Mother of 1, she herself a survivor of breast cancer. We set off amongst a sea of thousands … and one person dressed as a cornish pasty.

It was rather emotional, everyone had a piece of paper on their backs detailing who they were doing the race for … mine said in memory of my mum and for my Dad and Facebook Wife Mother of 1, both survivors. As people passed you couldn’t help but read their backs too, so many people taken from loved ones, a reminder of the cruelty of cancer with every step.

There were people clapping and cheering us on … and one older gentleman who as we passed was overheard saying “look at them all gabbing” (n. To talk idly or incessantly, as about trivial matters)

I raised £92 and we walked the 5km in 50 minutes, which to say we weren’t walking full speed and gabbing the whole time was an achievement

Hey up, Wife. Lovely post – it was a great day and I really enjoyed the gabbing. Highlight for me was the retelling of your husband’s drunken fatherly ‘advice’ as we walked and gabbed.

Thanks for doing it with me – it was great to be there striding out, esp thinking back to how bad things were last year. Onwards and upwards, eh? xx

Well one! It’s heartbreaking reading everyone’s backs, but it’s an amazing day and a great cause x

Well done. I took part three years ago and it was such an amazing experience. Love the thought of a Cornish Pasty doing it, I wonder what that was all about?

Well done, can’t remember if I sponsored you? Did I? If not apologies it was an over sight rather than me being tight!

Well done! You must have walked very fast to do it in this time! It’s such an emotional race, isn’t it.
By the way, I’ve tagged you over at mine.
