We were sent some things to try out last month, and these are some of the ones that we loved, things we will use or buy again …
Innocent’s new recipe book ‘Hungry?’. It covers just about every type of food, from lunchboxes, soirees and quick teas to unexpected visitors, gluten free and what to do with leftovers. This is a really fun book and so much more than your average recipe book. It has lots of fun tips and facts including the amazing wee-ometer, a handy chart to check that you’re getting enough water … so good that Innocent gave it a little trademark.
Peter Rabbit Organics’ diluted juices are a gentle blend of organic juice and water, with no added sugar, preservatives or artificial ingredients. They are suitable for age 6 months upwards. We tried Pear, apple and grape, apple and blackcurrant. The children liked all three. I tried them and found them very watery. Still for babies that would be preferable. Their size (150ml) means that they are very handy and just the right amount for a drink when out and about and the straw is easy for children to use.
Wet Ones wipes Sticky Fingers and Little Bottom wipes. Gone are the days when we need a bumper pack of wipes, but this handy pack is perfect and they are antibacterial. We were also sent some ‘Little Bottoms’ … not literally … toilet training wipes. My children, again, are past the toilet training stage, but these are definitely something we’d take when we go camping or on long trips for those instances when you are caught short.
Read With Biff, Chip and Kipper books and flashcards. The Biff, Chip and Kipper books have been given a bit of a facelift with a new hardback range and some new flashcards. I still think they are odd names for children, however, the 5 year old has enjoyed using these to top up his reading in between books from school. For parents looking for inspiration and guidance on supporting their children’s reading, visit the brand new website www.oxfordowl.co.uk.
Bubble Bum Car Seat. A blow up booster seat. It rolls up and fits in a little bag which I’ve been storing in the car. It came in handy this week when I had to pick up a friend’s child from school. Hey presto instant car seat. I can definitely see us taking this on holiday with us so that we don’t have to pay for carseats.
Rubik’s Cube. I haven’t played with one of these since the 80′s but it’s back with a vengeance. Highly addictive it’s been sitting on the coffee table and we’ve all had a go. A handheld game that doesn’t require batteries and good fun for all. I still haven’t managed to complete it though!
Persil 2 in 1 Comfort. This arrived on our doorstep in a cardboard box with breathing holes and the words ‘pet carrier’ on it. A sense of dread came over me as I imagined a PR campaign which involved real animals. Luckily, and disappointingly for the children, the box contained some Persil 2 in 1 Comfort and a small furry, stuffed, rabbit. The Persil we were sent was fragranced with Passion Flower. I threw a rather grubby Lulu and blankie in with our wash and they both came out super soft and smelling lovely.

God I remember Biff and Chip from about ten years ago. Nice to hear they’re still going strong
