I felt faint panic in my chest, I had to find Pierre

Written by on January 25, 2012 in BLOG - 5 Comments

When the 7 year old was a baby she was given a little rabbit at Easter, we named him Pierre Lapin.  She became very attached to the Pierre, so much so that she used to suck his ears to go to sleep.

Until recently Pierre Lapin, who fits in the palm of my hand, lived on a shelf in the playroom, hidden out of view. I can probably say that the 7 year old hadn’t had any contact with Pierre for 3 years.

She found him again though and had a joyful reunion, it was just like old times as she snuggled down and sucked his ears.

She brought him with us to the theatre, nestled amongst the sweets and carton of juice she had smuggled in her little bag. Later as we walked back to the car, she stuck her hand into her little bag and stopped dead in her tracks. Pierre had done a runner.  The tears started and although we were nearly at the car I did the only thing I could.  I returned to the theatre, up three flights of stairs, against the bustle of people leaving, being incredibly British “Excuse me … sorry … oops, sorry, excuse me … sorry”.

I felt faint panic in my chest, I had to find Pierre. I found him nestled amongst the sweet wrappers and empty juice carton under the seats … looking at me with pleading eyes.

Maybe I’ve watched Toy Story too many times. All I know is that Pierre Lapin is not ready to leave us yet.

How lucky she noticed he was missing before you got home. Amy has a piglet toy, I used to have to steal him when she was asleep to wash him and have him back with her before she noticed.

Aw bless Pierre Lapin, glad he is home safely. We’ve never had this scenario as neither of my two are particularly attached to any of their soft baby toys, but once whilst on holiday in Centre Parcs, we did pass a Dad who was cycling around the forest in the dark, stopping people and asking if they had seen a small soft rabbit…. he was almost inconsolable himself as he cried out ‘Have you seen my daughters ‘Yabby’?

I’m not sure what his chances of success were that night!

A near disaster, well averted. We cannot sleep without our two (twice as easy to misplace) puppies!

Oh, bless Pierre, I too am concerned about the impact of Toy Story on my own fragile sanity. I am much kinder to toys and do not bag them up so easily and send them off to the charity shop!

Pierre Lapin looks very stressed, he may need therapy. Being left alone unwanted does not do much for his self confidence.lol. I would have done exactly the same , as I like an easy life and if it means having to run throughout the entire theatre so be it. Glad to have found your blog.
