Gramps and my Stepmum came for tea on Tuesday.  I made a shepherds pie and broke the ‘no pudding during the week’ rule by buying profiteroles.  They are the 5 year old’s favourite.

Whilst I was cooking the 4 year old came into the kitchen.  He asked me what I was making and wanted to sniff the carrots (that’s just one of his foibles).  I told him he could have a sneak preview of pudding and opened the fridge.

4 year old “What are those?!”

Me “Profiteroles”

4 year old“Porritterholes?”

Me “No, profiteroles”

4 year old “Porrferretholes?”

Before I could correct him again he was away in search of his Hot Wheels track.

Later over dinner the 5 year old was struggling with her tea.  I decided to tell her what was for pudding in the hope it would give her that extra Oomph.

Me “I’ve bought a lovely pudding for us, it’s your favourite…”

5 year old “Is it cheesecake?”

Me “No”

5 year old“Is it banoffee pie?”

Me “No, I tell you what, [the 4 year old] knows what it is, let him tell you”

All eyes and ears fell on the 4 year old.

4 year old “We’re having pooholes for pudding”

Fantastic! Will pass this one on to my mum, who after nearly forty years of marriage still maintains that she wasn’t saying yes to my dad, but to the nice waiter who was offering her more “pooholes”…

Not just pooholes though; pooholes with cream. Which is entirely more delicious than normal pooholes.

I only like profiteroles when they are filled with ice cream or the yellow custardy stuff. Not cream or poo.

I love pooholes. Did I ever tell you about the ‘profiterole challenge?’ We used to go to this restaurant ‘en famille’ and would always order profiteroles. It became a habit for Mad Uncle Ali to see how many he could fit in his mouth at once…

Until it got really messy one time and English Grandma told us off and wouldn’t let us play any more.

    Don’t ask.
