Do you want to hold it?

Written by on July 14, 2010 in BLOG - 19 Comments

This post is for Tara Lara’s Gallery. Can you believe we are on Week 19 of The Gallery? … Amazing.  The theme is along the bearded Rolf Harris theme of ‘Can you tell what it is yet?’.

Mine is very easy and comes with a full explanation and not a great deal of suspense. I think Rolf would be disappointed.

Yesterday I was summoned to the garden by my son, the 4 year old.

“Look at this big snail” he said eagerly.

Said big snail was bumbling along under the trampoline, minding it’s own.

“You see that one?” he said, pointing to near the gate.

I looked at a snail drenched in water, looking like it had just done 50 lengths of a pool.

“That one’s hiding” he said sheepishly, hiding his water pistol behind his back.

“I’m not surprised it’s hiding, I hope you’re going to be kinder to this snail” I motioned to the big snail. “In fact, do you want to hold it?”

He didn’t believe me at first “Hold it?” but it turns out he did want to hold it.

By the time the other snail had dried out and continued on it’s journey he had decided to put his water pistol away and was away to the attic to proudly show Daddy his snail.

Aww, great post! No way Chipmunk would hold a snail!

I hope the first snail wasn’t too traumatised by its unexpected watery experience :D

I didn’t think it was going to be rude…with kids, when they want to hold something, you just know it’s going to be something GROSS and slimy if not also sticky and/or smelly. I found a snail climbing the wall IN THE HALL. Massive one. Eeew.

Wow. I could never hold that even for a giant bar of chocolate. English Mum’s comment is a little worrying.
    Just saying.

Don’t serial killers start out by torturing small animals?

Barf. Our hens eat all our snails & slugs so I don’t need to see them :)

    Yuk!
Yesterday I found a worm IN MY HOUSE near the cat’s food bowl (I wonder who brought it in??). If only I’d taken a picture – I was too busy screaming for my daughter to come and help me get rid of it (and kindly, she didn’t…)!

    GM xx

I loved snails when I was younger – we used to collect buckets full of them and keep them in a snail farm :s
