With redundancies, bad fortune, a new business and general crapness it’s been hard but we’ve got through. We’re at a turning point now where things feel like they’re on the up. We’re in a better place now, making our way forwards and trying to secure a better future for our kids.
I’m not good with spread sheets but I like to keep a close eye on what’s going on. Thinking twice before buying anything, having a holiday ban for a year and selling all our excess stuff (toys, clothes etc) has given us a bit of breathing space. I’ve also been more frugal with food, we used to throw an awful lot of food away at the end of each week. Meal planning and using leftovers along with using online shopping, to stop impulse buying, has saved us money. Alongside our jobs we also have a new business and a couple of other small income streams. It’s giving us time to think about the future, budget and plan a bit more. We have a bit of breathing space.
The children have money boxes and it’s important to me that they learn, from a young age, about saving money. They get pocket money each week and I’m really pleased that they choose to save it and have a goal rather than spend it all at once. They also get a tiny amount each week for helping with chores. The next move is to open bank accounts for the children and see where they go from there.
Hopefully the future is looking brighter.
