Bambi is one of the first Disney films that the children ever watched, it’s also a film that I watched as a child and loved. A friend let us borrow it three years ago. I remember that I couldn’t get the Vietnamese subtitles off the bottom. Regardless, they were mesmerised. But we had to give it back and as a result they haven’t watched it for two years.
The Diamond edition of Bambi was released last week and we were sent a copy. They were gripped from the start. The 6 year old raced through all sorts of emotions, sadness, excitement, fear and joy. She kept having to explain to the 5 year old that Bambi’s mother had died. He decided she had just gone for a long walk. Call it what you will. I found the music really moving and I still have April Showers stuck in my head.
Bambi is a bittersweet tale, a timeless Disney classic, and one that we will watch over and over again.
