A Three Way Swap

Written by on February 12, 2010 in BLOG - 10 Comments

There are three of them in the 4 year old’s nursery.

Three boys who wear exactly the same shoes.

Exactly the same shoes, except I didn’t realise until the 4 year old came home in a pair which looked like his but older and smaller. I hadn’t put his name in them because he, apparently, never takes his shoes off at nursery. The next day I went to nursery and spoke to the mother of the other boy and we agreed that although there were no names in the shoes that our boys each had the wrong shoes.

Last week when I picked him up from school his shoes looked different again. They were the same shoes, but this time they looked bigger and newer.

When we got home I took them off and looked inside. They had his friend, T’s, initials in them. Somehow he’d swapped shoes.  Yes, even though they, apparently, don’t take their shoes off at nursery.

I rang Teacher Friend Mother of 3.

Me – It’s OK, we have T’s shoes, they must have swapped at nursery. I’ll swap them back in the morning.

TFMo3 – It’s not as simple as that

Me – Oh?

TFMo3 – Well it seems like it was a three way swap.  T doesn’t have [The 4 year old's] shoes he has someone elses.

Me - Oh!

I can’t wait for him to grow out of those shoes. Except next time I’ll have to buy some that no one else will want to wear for fear of another three way swap.

I love the idea of the 4 year old in pink shoes. His face would be a picture!

Wait while the joy of school uniform! Navy cardis all look the same, and you’re lucky if one comes home at all!

Obviously they are taking them off behind the teacher’s back, so time for the magic marker on the inside!

Tut. It’s easy. Just gaffer tape them onto his feet every morning. No one will be swapping them then …

My brother used to do this all the time!! With everything! Shoes, coats, PE kit, shirts, trousers, ties… and from a whole class worth of boys!

I remember all the boys’ mums had to hold a swap-session one weekend to return everything to its rightful owner :)

That is funny but annoying it used to happen to my sister but the shoe people don’t help as they only make a couple of styles and that is it!

Oh I see my thoughts were on the same wavelength as Mad Mum.

    I’m nothing if not original.

    ;)

Oh no! I’m dreading this! Boys shoes are so boring, not much to choose from in Clarks.

    I suggest pink shoes.

    :)

We have had this with Maxi, it seems there are only 2/3 styles that they all wear, it can be really confusing. I should put him in pink ones and be done with it
